On Monday 28th of March Prof. Dr. Willeke van Roon was promoted to Professor in Human Genetics. On behalf of the HCHWA-D foundation Sanne and Maike were there. We were very impressed by the inaugural lecture Willeke did.
The research Willeke and her team did is based on developing RNA therapies. Together with her colleagues Willeke founded the Dutch Center for RNA therapeutics, the only research center in The Netherlands where they are specialized in RNA therapies. The inaugural lecture was specified on ‘Translational research, where small parts together make the bigger picture’. Or: how can research in laboratories in cells and animals, lead to a therapy for humans?
Willeke also spoke about the involvement of all HCHWA-D families when it comes to research. For professors like Willeke, people who participate to research are unmissable. Because of all the dedication and participation by these people, possible therapies are coming closer. You can read Wille her inaugural lecture here.
